Strange Trouble

Just a tentative little peek at what's going on in the first draft of book three. Remember--first draft and unedited. Things tend to change a bit with the second draft. ;)

The ground was a cold, hard bed. She smelled the sharp, sour scent of old blood mixing with new blood. She sensed the determination of Spring as it tried to break through the frozen ground.

Crushed leaves, the dried skeletons of dozens of tiny animals, birds ruffling their feathers as they watched from naked trees. A vision of Llodra swam through the murky waters drowning her mind.

“Destroy the brains,” someone shouted. She didn’t recognize the voice. Or maybe she did. What was a voice? What was a brain?

Suddenly she was back at the Inn, letting Strad into her room.
He came at her like a bulldozer. A tornado. A raging man filled with grief and pain and desperation.
His voice echoed in her mind. Rune, Rune.

But then he was Jeremy, and she was restrained in her bed, and Jeremy was cutting, cutting…

She began to seize, understanding what was happening as her body convulsed. Not long ago she’d been hit with a vaccinator, an evil invention of the Church of Slayers. It was like that, only…

The next time she swam to the surface of awareness two men in uniforms leaned over her, determined looks on their faces. “We’ll have to kill her. She’s becoming one of them.”

And he pointed his gun at her head.

Blood and Bite

“I’m worried about Lex.” He studied the wall, which held nothing more interesting than a faint green paint.

She opened her mouth, then shut it again. Could it be? “Raze?”

“Just keep an eye on her.” His voice was gruff. “You need to get going.”

She stood. What a fucking day. “Does she know?”

“There’s nothing to know.” He strode to the door and banged on it until Greg pulled it open. “I’ll see you Friday.”

And he was gone.

Print or Not...

I'm debating on releasing the Rune Alexander series in print as well as electronic formats. I know a few people--one of my professors, for one--who wants them in print.

I'll give it some more thought but maybe soon I'll be posting that Rune is available in print. I'll put a gadget in the sidebar asking which you prefer.

Please let me know :)

Oh, also, if you'd like to be given occasional updates about my books, reviews, interviews, etc., submit your email address in the 'subscribe' field on the right to join my mailing list.

From Blood and Bite

Blood and Bite--Book Two

The shrinks really had helped.
Was she cured? No. But she was a lot less likely to pick up strange men and have them back to her house for a little slash and tickle.
Of course, she hadn’t been tested yet. Time would tell how well she really was.

As I posted on my Facebook, barring any mishaps, book two in the Rune Alexander series, Blood and Bite, will be released tomorrow.

Shiv Crew is back in book two of the Rune Alexander series.

Rune and the crew--some of them a little healthier, some of them a little more battered--take on new monsters and unbelievable surprises in Blood and Bite.

While Rune is keeping her promise to Ellis and trying to get her mind fixed, the berserker goes away to take care of some business--mysterious business he doesn't share with Shiv Crew.

What he brings back with him knocks the wind out of Rune and makes her question everything she thought she knew about Strad Matheson.

But the worst is yet to come.

With a mad vampire master she must destroy, a child she must save, and unimaginable screams from a past she has to ignore, Rune has her hands full. But there is always something new and terrible waiting in River County--waiting, it seems, just for her.

Because just when she thinks she can't possibly handle one more terrible thing, she discovers a shocking truth about herself, her blood, and her bite.

How Long...

I went over Blood and Bite tonight for, I think, the final time before I release it.

I was also thinking about how far to take this series. Some authors start out knowing exactly how many books they'll write in a series--three, five--but I honestly don't see an end. I may write about Rune for years.

It depends on a few things, but I'm in love with that world and those characters. I knew from the beginning that Shiv Crew was going to be special. I knew that.

But I still don't know how long they'll last.

A good long time, I'm thinking.

I also wanted to say thanks to the readers who have contacted me. It means more than you know.
And thanks to the awesome bloggers and reviewers who have talked about and reviewed Shiv Crew.

Today, I got another review for Shiv Crew. It's amazing. It makes me feel great when someone is touched and entertained by my words, my books.

Below are some snippets, but go to this blog ( and read the entire review. It's SO worth the click ;)

"Wow. Just wow. The cover is gorgeous and so is the first story in the Rune Alexander series. I mean it – Wow."

"My goodness is Rune Alexander, our protagonist, hurting. Cane’s description of Rune’s self-loathing and grief is amazing. Like I said, she practically had me bawling. "

"Can you tell I loved Shiv Crew? If the next installment in the series had been out, I would have bought it already. I mean, WOW."
